At Gemma Louise Photography, based in Tiptree Essex - every newborn photography session is created to feel gentle, relaxed, and completely baby-led. With over 15 years of specialist newborn photography experience, I take an unhurried and patient approach, allowing plenty of time for feeding, cuddles, and settling. Every baby is different, so each session naturally adapts to your little one’s needs and mood.
I am fully trained in baby safety, so whether your baby is sleepy, curious, or in need of extra comfort, I use a variety of safe and gentle newborn soothing techniques to help them feel calm and secure throughout the session.

I’m a specialist newborn photographer based in Essex, with over 150 five-star reviews across Google and Facebook, and well educated in photography with BA (Hons) Degree in Photography. I focus exclusively on maternity, newborn, baby and family photography, welcoming families to my purpose-built studio nestled between Maldon and Colchester. I’m also a mum to two teenagers myself, so I truly understand just how quickly these early years pass.
My studio is a calm, peaceful designed with both parents and little ones in mind — somewhere you can take a breath, feel comfortable, and enjoy the experience. It’s fully equipped with professional lighting and thoughtfully chosen setups, but most importantly, it feels warm and relaxed from the moment you walk in.
Before each newborn session, I take time to meditate and clear my mind. It’s important to me that I’m fully present for you and your baby, creating a calm and welcoming space where you feel supported and at ease from the very beginning.
Your baby’s safety is always my priority. I’m fully trained in newborn photography safety and, with over 15 years of experience handling and gently posing newborns, you can feel reassured that your little one is in careful, experienced hands. I understand which poses are appropriate and safe, how to properly support your baby’s delicate neck and body, and how to recognise those tiny cues that tell me when they need a pause, a cuddle, or a change of position.
Everything I do is baby-led and unhurried. I use gentle soothing techniques and move at your baby’s pace, allowing the session to flow naturally in a way that feels relaxed and seamless.
Alongside photographing families, I also teach newborn photography here in Essex, supporting other photographers in learning safe and thoughtful newborn practices.

We first visited Gemma 8 years ago when my son was born and had amazing newborn photos done. I have followed Gemma ever since and was so happy to see that she was still doing photography when I found out we were expecting our second baby. We are blown away once again with the quality of the photos we have received from Gemma they are perfect in every way. Gemma was calm, professional and amazing with both my 8 year old son, who she let help pass her props and hold things for her, as well as my 2 week old daughter. My baby stayed calm and sleepy throughout thanks to Gemma’s experience. Gemma is fast to respond to any queries and also is very informative with the information pack beforehand to preview props and colours as well as a routine to do beforehand to help your baby stay sleepy which we found really helpful. We are over the moon with our recent experience and photographs with Gemma. Our newborn was 18 days old on the day of the shoot and we have a 3 and 5 year old who came with us too. The studio was set up, warm and ready with space to sit and watch on as Gemma used her expertise to transition our baby out of his car seat while keeping him settled. We had chosen our props beforehand and Gemma had these ready, carefully and confidently handling our baby to get the best photos of him.
When it was time for sibling shots, our middle child’s behaviour was challenging at times but he responded well to Gemma and she worked enthusiastically and quickly to ensure that we got the best possible photos. Her experience with babies and families was very evident and she was equipped with many techniques and tactics to keep everybody happy and involved, even playing games with our eldest whilst I gave baby a short feed.
The whole shoot was complete within a hour and our photographs were in my inbox within days. Gemma made a small edit I had requested in no time at all and her communication was fantastic from my first enquiry right through to sharing the images with us.
Gemma’s packages are very reasonably priced for the service provided and we wouldn’t hesitate to return to her studio in the future - highly recommend!

Just a little note to remind you that newborn photos are best taken within the first two weeks after baby arrives. It’s a good idea to book before your due date, but don’t worry—the date is completely flexible and can easily be adjusted if your baby decides to arrive a little earlier or later than expected.
