If you’re a mum of a bigger family, you’ve probably already thought: “There’s no way we’ll all sit nicely for photos…” — and honestly, I get it.

Photographing a newborn is one thing… but adding siblings (especially multiple!) can feel a little daunting. But I promise you, it doesn’t have to be stressful. In fact, some of my favourite sessions are with larger families — like this gorgeous family of five I recently had in the studio.

A Beautiful Family of Five Session

This session was such a lovely one. A newborn baby snuggled up with two proud older siblings, and mum and dad right there soaking it all in — a full, busy, love-filled family.

And yes… it was a little chaotic at moments (that’s completely normal!), but that’s part of the magic.

We didn’t aim for “perfect.” Instead, we focused on connection — siblings cuddling in close, little hands gently holding baby, those natural smiles that happen when everyone relaxes a bit.

Those are the images that really matter.

“What If My Other Children Don’t Sit Still?”

This is probably the number one worry I hear — especially from mums with more than one child.

The truth is… they don’t need to sit still.

I keep things really relaxed and flexible. We take breaks, we chat, we let them be themselves. Sometimes the best photos come from those in-between moments — a giggle, a cuddle, or even a slightly cheeky grin.

I’ll gently guide things, but there’s never any pressure for your children to behave a certain way.

Making It Work for Everyone

With larger families, it’s all about patience and going with the flow.

I usually start with sibling and family images first, while everyone is still fresh, then move into more settled newborn shots. That way, your older children can relax sooner, and your baby gets the calm, quiet time they need too.
